A three-story apartment building to be constructed in the outskirts of Thermi, a green residential suburb of Thessaloniki.
The orientation of the plot is southeast with one existing residential building on the southwest side and another one on the northwest. The building under construction is placed on the boundary of the north-west side of the plot, detached to the neighboring building, following the former continuous system applied in the Thermi area, while a distance of 2 meters is left from the southwest border of the plot. The design intends for the new building to be a gentle transition between the heights of its neighboring buildings, harmoniously complementing the urban fabric. Additionally, the volume of the new building is placed far from the open and free, green corner of the plot, rather at a distance from the street limits, less aggressive towards the pedestrian, contributing to the environmental upgrade and improvement of the quality of life in the area.
The new apartment building hosts three 1-room apartments on the first floor, two 2-room apartments on the second floor and a 3-room apartment on the third floor. There are 6 parking spaces in the pilotis of the ground floor and storage rooms for all the apartments in the basement. Finally, there is a roof terrace accessible for all the residents. Morphologically, the main southern volume of the new building is painted in a "warm" color of terracotta while surrounded by the continuous, solid white zones of the balconies in contrast to the northern volume, which appears "cold" in character given the metallic elements like railings and pergolas.
In accordance with sustainability requirements, the building is designed to be classified in the A+ energy efficiency category, creating a shell with structural elements of low thermal permeability coefficients. Also, alternative sources of renewable energy will be used, such as photovoltaic units and solar panels, while 6 electric car charging facilities will be installed in the parking spaces. All the main living areas of the residences, having a southern orientation, are protected by a shading system with vertical perforated wind curtains moving on wire guides.
The planting of the plot is not only limited to the required surfaces as the greenery "enters" the building with vertical "green walls" of climbing plants, marking the entrance and the parking areas. Even on the hard surfaces for vehicle access, perforated cubes will be placed, creating a "green" floor on almost the entire plot.
